Privacy policy

The short version: your reading stays on your device unless you choose otherwise. Breez works fully offline with no account. Some Pro features need the internet, and each one is described below, with exactly what it sends and to whom.

What stays on your device

The documents you open, your reading positions, settings, stats, goals and saved passages live on your device. Without an account, none of it leaves.

Anonymous usage statistics

Breez sends anonymous usage events through Aptabase, a privacy-focused analytics service: which features are used, which paces people choose, how far readers get through setup. Events carry no names, accounts, device identifiers or reading content, and cannot be linked to you.

If you sign in

An account is optional. You can sign in with Apple or Google so your library follows you between devices. We keep the email address Apple or Google gives us (Apple lets you hide yours) and an account id. Accounts are run on Supabase, hosted in the United States.

Pro features that use the internet

Sync and backup. Your library, positions, settings, stats, goals and saved passages are stored in your account so they appear on your other devices. Only you can read them.

Reading aids (AI). When you ask Breez to define a word, explain a passage, recap where you left off or summarise a chapter, the words involved (the word and its sentence, the passage, or the text before your place) are sent through our server to Anthropic to write the answer. Anthropic does not use this to train its models. We count how many aids you use each month, not what they said.

Natural voices. When you listen with a natural voice, the text being read is sent to our voice provider to make the audio, and the audio is stored in your account so it does not have to be made twice.

Browse. Opening Wikipedia, news or essays loads them from those sites, which see an ordinary request from your device, as a browser would.

Open in Breez from Safari and other apps. The page or text you send goes straight into Breez on your device.

Purchases

Apple handles payment; we never see your card. RevenueCat tells Breez whether your Pro plan is active, using an anonymous id.

What we never do

We do not sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.

Deleting your data

Without an account, deleting the app deletes everything. With an account, open the You tab and choose Delete account: your account and everything stored in it are removed from our servers.

Children

Breez is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date.

Breez was previously called Breezia, and before that Wisp.
